October 11th: National Coming Out Day

Coming Out Day, celebrated on October 11 each year, is a day for raising awareness and promoting the allyship of those in the LGBTQ+ community. Coming Out Day celebrates people's right to live openly and authentically. It calls forth the idea that visibility is crucial to the advancement of not just rights but also the overall equality of the LGBTQ+ community.

As stated by the Human Rights Campaign “Race, ethnicity, language, religion, culture, gender expression, sexual orientation and gender identity should never be barriers to living our full lives. Coming out or inviting someone in is a personal choice and is often a significant part of reclaiming this right and living a person’s identity publicly. Everyone deserves the right to live their lives genuinely, completely and honestly”
