Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion: "Preschool to Prison"
New York Public Library – Harry Belafonte 115th Street Branch
203 West 115th Street, New York, NY 10026

Join us at the NYPL for a documentary screening and discussion of the “preschool to prison pipeline” with filmmakers Dr. Karen Baptiste and Edwin Walker. Preschool to Prison is a compelling examination of how the United States public school system is built and operated like prison. Zero-tolerance policies are used to justify suspensions and arrests that set up a pathway to send children of color and children with special needs from school to prison. This riveting documentary spotlights personal accounts from people affected by the school to prison pipeline provide and examines the generational impact of these conditions on society.

Karen “Dr. K” Baptiste is the founder of Preschool to Prison, LLC. She has served on the International Board of Directors and the Education Committee at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development where she advocated to Congress and developed national education policy points to address systemic barriers. She is also a co-author of The New Classroom Instruction That Works.

This outing is free of charge.
