Far too often, leaders focus their time and energy on proving that they're smart. They earn degrees and certifications, acquire and refine technical skills, and hope to be seen as an expert in their discipline. Being smart is important, but it's not all one needs to be successful and fulfilled as a leader. Having an understanding and connection to one's emotions and how to manage emotions in communication, managing others and giving feedback plays a significant role in a leader’s effectiveness; and it can make you a star.

As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Have an increased understanding of emotional intelligence (EQ) vs. being smart (IQ)
  • Discover how emotions define how we show up at work and the implications of those emotions for others 
  • Develop and identify strategies to improve their interactions with others

About the Speaker 

David B. Sarnoff, Esq., ACC

 David B. Sarnoff, Esq., ACC, is an ICF Certified Executive Coach and leadership trainer with Loeb Leadership. As a former attorney, experienced executive search consultant, business owner, and former board of education president, David is uniquely qualified and experienced to understand the mindset, demands and challenges of managers, directors and attorneys.  David utilizes his strengths as an executive coach to elevate the professional performance, mindset, emotional intelligence, soft skills, leadership potential and team building skills of his clients.  He is a frequent speaker at ALA chapters in several cities and has presented at the ALA national conference.  In September 2020, he was appointed to serve on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee of the New York City Bar Association.  In September 2022, he was appointed as Co-chair of that committee.  David is also certified in the EQ-i 2.0 assessment.
