Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed every October.  During this time, advocates, professionals, abuse survivors, and the community at large unite to not only mourn the lives lost due to Domestic Violence but to celebrate the progress made to help end such a crime. October 17, 2024, is Purple Thursday. On the third Thursday of October, we wear purple to raise awareness and let survivors know they are not alone.

One great way to acknowledge Domestic Violence Awareness Month is to join one of New York State DV 101 Trainings. This training is for staff, supervisors, and administrators working in local districts, private nonprofit agencies, municipalities (city, county, and state), HRA, ASC, and other professionals assisting survivors of gender-based and domestic violence. Learn how to recognize the signs of DV and understand its impact and challenges.
